SPRING RETREAT
Spring Retreat will take place
the weekend of April 13, 14 and 15.
We will leave campus around 4:00 that
Fri. afternoon and arrive at Monte
Toyon Camp in time for dinner. We
will stay until Sunday, leaving after
lunch to return to campus. The main
intent of the retreat is RELAXATION.
After two quarters of working our fingers
to the bone, we deserve a rest
together. Movies, freetime to do nothing,
a dance, access to a beach,
etc, will be some of the activities.
It will cost each person only $2.00.
Sign-ups will be the first week of
Spring Quarter, so bring your money
up to the College Seven Offices when
you sign up.
P.S. Alex Haley, author of the Autobiography
of Malcolm X, will speak at
the retreat on Saturday night.

candidate in Sociolinguistics, will

and students in the Senior Commons
Room (stevenson) today (tuesday 13th)
from 11:00 to /:00p.m.

VOTING AND JURY DUTY
Within the past year, many students
have registeres to vote in Santa Cruz
County. The right to vote carries
with it the responsibility to serve on a
trial jury when called upon to do so.
Occupational status as a student does not
automatically excuse from jury duty.

College Seven Government
Friday's community government meeting
went off as scheduled. The meeting
was chaired by Tim Slattery and Ben
Littlejohn. Some of the admin-staff-fac.
people present were Herman Blake, Julie
Chang and Joe Nadler.
Fifty people showed up at Performing
Arts Concert Hall ready to finalize
the Task Force's proposal for a community
government. Unfortunately, the meeting
ended withotut a vote on the proposal, but
to the satisfaction of those present, it
did end with an amendment which received
input from most everyone there. (The
proposal in now about midway through
revision.)
One significant amendment, which was
the subject of much debate, was the addition
of a sixth ethnic/cultural representative
to the Progress Committee. Su
Schcacter and Joan Presky believed that
there should be a Jewish rep; and a debate
and vote finally showed that everyone
felt they were justified in taking this
stand. There will be a Jewish rep. on
the Progress Com. and (as proposed by
Dave Hansen) a provision for additional
ethnic/cultural reps. If the genuine need
arises. Throughout the meeting, objections
and amendments were made and hand-count
votes were taken.
This seemed to be a successful meeting,
with much being done to come up with
a true(as possible) peoples' governement.
It ended with a pledge by all those remaining
to meet again early in the Spring
Quarter to finish this finalization process,
and vote for acceptance or rejection
of the proposal.
